Default clunk sound

Hi all,
I've been reading the forum daily and I've been trying to figure out what might be wrong with my 02. I believe that it's not an axle problem as it happens occasionally when I'm depressing the clutch. The problem is not gear specific and happens in 1st through 3rd when up shifting.

When I depress the clutch and shift, I get a clunk noise when the gear engages and I lift off the clutch. The clutch does not slip and the car shifts fine. I have 36,000 miles on the original clutch. Might I have a bad disc plate or something else associated with the transmission?

No one's had this issue? Could it be my driveline?

Found out what the noise was and it didn't come from the tranny. Seems Honda service took the two screws out that seat the rotor and when I stopped there was some play which caused the noise I heard.

Glad that's gone but now I have to get rid of the rattle I hear when the car goes over those lane dividers! I had my shocks and springs changes today because I thought the shocks were bad.

Anyone had this problem?

Glad you got the first solved! Sorry I can't help with the rattle problem though.

Did this sound similar to gravel being kicked into the rear fender well?

no, not a gravel sound but more like a LOUD thump, thump, thump that's not been muffled by the wheels or shocks. Feels like I'm riding on bad shocks and only happens when I move lanes or hit a square lane marker. A friend said it sounded like something bouncing in the trunk. I checked the spare tire and even removed it. Still there! I also pulled out the trunk mats and looked around.

I'm surprised that the missing screws were the problem. Many of us that track our cars leave these out since they often become siezed and are difficult to remove for rotor replacement. The small screws do not hold the rotor in place, the clamping force of the road wheel when the lug nuts are tightened does.

Could you have inadvertently solved the problem in some other way? Perhaps the lug nuts weren't tightened properly?
You might be right as the rear tires had to come off and be re-torque. I was just happy the sound went away when the screws where replaced.

The tech explained that the missing screws caused some slack on the rotor and when I used the brakes, the shoes would grab, the rotors would move a bit (back and forth) and that might be the reason for the noise.

On another note, my second problem has me stumped but I think I might have a couple things I need to check before bringing it to the shop. I get a hard bump when going over those lane dividers or square dividers. I need to first check the tire pressure and swaybar bushings. Do you know if the S2k has rear body bushings?
