Default Clutch partial release rattle (not decel buzz)

My 01 had really bad buzzing on letting off the gas. It was so bad I thought no way could it just be the disc springs. I got it changed and it completely solved the buzzing, but now I have other issues like when changing through gears and letting out the clutch and getting on the gas, there is a distinct rattle coming from the clutch which goes when the clutch is fully out and engine is loaded.

I can replicate when cruising say in 5/6th, if I load up the clutch just before the point of slipping and go modulate the throttle from coast to light cruise the rattle occurs. Now if I the light throttle mod thing with the clutch fully out there is no problem, its just when its pressed a little.

I have searched on this and other had mentioned the 'growl' when changing and letting up the clutch/on gas. Its the same thing. It can't be normal.

It can't be backlash in the gearbox other wise it would do it when the clutch was full out. Release bearing is new. It can't be anything to do with clutch 'disengagement' as it only does it when the release mechanism is slightly pre-loaded and then clutch no fully released. It must be something to do with the release fork, maybe some bearings in there or something.

Anyone have any idea?

I got it changed
To what?

its just when its pressed a little
Why would you want to purposely make your clutch do that? If it's fine during "normal" shifting, why find a way to make it do something weird? Since you have given few details of which clutch you changed to and what your driving style is (in terms of your shifting/clutching technique) it would be very difficult to tell you if what you have is normal or not. Off hand, I would say you are making your clutch "chatter" and without those details, who can really say if you have a problem.

eg. Afterall, I can purposely drive in such a way as to make the engine knock and almost stall out. It'll start to rattle violently and cause the car to lurch. It will ping and sound like a can of rocks being shook about. It's call "lugging" but I try not to do this.

Stock 055 clutch

'Normal' driving style as in I try to shift smooth. It happens all eveytime shift, and I can make it do it like I decribed in my post.

I have read other post describing it as 'normal', but not evey one has it. I was trying to find out what it is because it annoys the shit out of me.

I guess it can be lived with just like the decel buzz can but I doubt its meant to be like the way it is.

This doesn't tell us much. "Normal" to you may not be "normal" at all. It's not your shifting that is of interest here. It's your clutch action. Pushing slightly down on the clutch pedal to make it do what you say is NOT a "normal" thing to do. You're going to have to describe what you technique really is. What is it that you do to "try to shift smooth"? When you shift, what is your gas foot doing? What is your clutch foot doing? What is your shifting hand doing? And is all this in relation to each other? How long have you been driving manual? How long (miles) has it been since the clutch job? How did you break it in?

I know pressing the clutch partially when cruising to make it do it is not normal, never said it was. I thought it might help other to diagnose the problem by describing how the noise can be replicated.

Been driving a manual for ~20yrs (88 3.2 911, 90 911 3.6 supercharged, 2x944 turbos, 2xM3's an M5's etc). I know how to drive a manual (for the record shifting an older 911 is quite a task).

Like I said in my original post, noise happens when clutch is being released gas is being rolled on, just at the point that the clutch is almost fully out and while getting on the gas, there is a distinct rattle/growl. Shifts are fast with minimal riding, just like most experienced stick drivers would do in any car.

Anyway, researching older posts it looks like others definitely have reported the same noise and not been able to work out what it is. It does not appear to be symptomatic of impending failure. I guess its one of those 'live with it' things.

I get the same thing (03 @ 7,500 miles). As the clutch is released there is a slight rattle/growl. It is audible at about 1/2 engagement and disappears as the transmission fully engages with the cutch released. Quicker shifts that result in better rev-matching seems to reduce it, and it is intermittent depending on the weather, car temp, the stars, and the whim of GOD. I don't worry about it anymore and consider it one of those S-quirks that present themselves when I am being too anal and not driving the car like it was intended (like the 3rd gear "gritch" and the shaky shifter). If something were really wrong, I suspect it would be very obvious. As a lark I will take a peek at the engine mounts when I have it up on ramps next, but I expect to find nothing.
