...and to prevent it from happening again, keep the clutch fluid clean. Every other engine oil change, turkey baster out all the old clutch fluid, wipe inside clean with paper towel, refill.

Every two years or so, bleed the fluid at the slave cylinder bleeder. Use gravity bleed.
