Default Clutch rattle

Hey guys... This is my first ever upgraded clutch setup. I went with the hardtopguy kit - ACT HD pressure plate, ACT lightened flywheel and OEM friction disc.

First off, the clutch makes a slight rattling noise when engaged (foot off pedal, driving normally). It's most noticeable when keeping a constant speed. If you push the pedal in/disengage the clutch the rattle goes away instantly. It almost sounds like a loose bolt - definitely something in the transmission tunnel/front of the car. It's a constant but not consistent rattle.

It sounds exactly like holding my ring finger (with titanium ring) lightly against the stock aluminum shift knob while driving (i.e. getting that light vibration of metal-on-metal, not necessarily big pieces).

If there a chance something is loose or do upgraded kits such as these make more noise?

My diff has also just been rebuilt with 4.57's and the sound definitely doesn't seem like it's coming from the rear.

The transmission was also replaced (although it apparently didn't need it - not the shop's fault but my own) with one from HTG - AP1/28k miles. Apparently the steering linkage wasn't quite marked right during that either, since my steering wheel is now about 5

um yeah... that's what I said.

after talking to a couple of local folks and the shop, it appears as if this is normal. I've got to bring the car back this weekend anyway, so I'll take the tech for a ride anyway.

Apparently the noise is "normal" with an upgraded clutch
All of the parts are brand new.
Thanks for the suggestion, though

There is nothing normal about noises with a new HTG clutch. I've done about 25 of them and none of them make any noises at all.

The clutch buzz will have been eliminated with the HTG kit, because only the new disc is available. Half the cars I've done clutches in were older cars and the clutch buzz will always be cured.

There is something else wrong.

I just did a clutch job on my car and I have chatter too, I have a spec stage 3. I put about 600 miles on it and the noise level has gone down ALOT but it's still there, I read it's normal.

Hmmm... I'll be bringing the car back to the shop once I get the gears broken in and have them look at it then. I've heard that the Exedy clutch is very noisy, but that's also a completely different beast. To be clear, this is the ACT HD pressure plate, OEM friction disc, ACT lightened flywheel.

It may be that I've not driven the car in a long time, but it just doesn't feel or sound quite right. It also seems as if I'm smelling burned clutch pretty often, mostly after some slow maneuvering, like backing into a parking space... may be related to the fact that the clutch engagement is so low to the floor...

If I'm moving slowly (just getting rolling) and have to push the clutch back in it also sounds pretty bad... like something's just flopping around in there. I seem to remember this a bit from before the clutch upgrade, but I'm not really certain. My wife is horrified by the sound.

I just want it to be "right"

i guess "chatter" would be a more appropriate description.
