What I did notice with my HTG clutch kit (with the Comptech FW) is that in 6th, at precisely 119 km/h, and I feather the throttle, I get a whirrr in the gearbox.
Not at 118km/h, not at 120 km/h, not in 5th gear.
Must be some high speed "clutch buzz" because of the lighter clutch combination.
6th gear is in the middle of the primairy shaft.
(Well.. with 6 you don't have a middle)

Anyway.. it is not what the OP is talking about.
During engaging or disenaging I hear no noise at all.

If it helps at all, I got some more seat time today and the sound seems to only appear once the transmission has warmed up.

It really almost sounds as if there's a loose bolt rattling around somewhere (top bolt on the transmission, perhaps?). I found the heat shield loose (rear-most bolt) and retightened that, but it wasn't the source of the noise. It seems to rattle at a higher frequency with higher engine revs. It is USUALLY most pronounced when decelerating in gear - but is there when accelerating and cruising too.

I'm going to try and get an audio recording of the noise.

I have the same problem, but only in decel from around 3.2K to 2K rpm. I replaced my OEM friction disc with a 6 spring disc from Comp Clutch. And I also had lots of shred smell when performing slow maneuvers, esp on an incline. And it is worse when warm. and I re-did the install and checked every bolt from the bell-housing back, in the prescribed order. Sound still remains....... Could this be a dying bearing?

To be clear, this is the ACT HD pressure plate, OEM friction disc, ACT lightened flywheel.
Yes that's the kit I'm reffering to. There should be no added noise at all. I'd go around with a wrench and look for a loose bolt, maybe you'll get lucky.

xb1...The Competition Clutches unit is your problem.

I've done 25 or so HTG clutches, always with rave results. 26 if you count tonights

I've done 2 Competition Clutchs units. Both had real bad decel buzz, even worse than the worst year 2000 s2k could produce.

NEVER again.

Thanks again for weighing in, Billman... The story I keep getting is that the lightened flywheel is causing additional noise from the transmission, as is common in Porsches and BMWs that use a stock dual mass flywheel. My car is otherwise stock - if I had a modified exhaust I'm sure I wouldn't hear the "rattle."

The other problem is what I've decided to call "floppy clutch" - I mentioned it earlier. I have no idea what that might be, aside from maybe my transmission or engine mounts are shot, causing the whole thing to bounce a bit when it goes from a torqued condition to fully released.

Could it be the material difference of the flywheel not matching the material the OEM friction disc is made from. Therein causing a very quick grab of the clutch disc and making the springs pick up the lack of slippage? I dont get why people want to use the OEM disc, Most clutches are made to work together, not with OEM parts. Just my opinon Hope you figure out the problem.

Well, as Billman said - this usually isn't a problem with the HTG kit and this kit has been used many MANY times and is in fact recommended for NA and supercharged applications.

As far as the floppy clutch issue goes, I'm CERTAIN this condition existed before the upgrade, I think the clutch upgrade has just exaggerated it.

I've got act HD PP and ACT/Exedy disc, I get that springy clutch feeling occasionally, I just stop the pedal and it goes away hehe. When my combo dies im going with an OS Giken or Ogura.

i thought when the clutch was engauged that meant clutch in, as in neutral not clutch out, in gear

and clutch chatter is a result of an uneven flywheel surface or disc thickness/clearence
