Default clutch replacement

this was a post on another thread, though i would start my own to make sure that i get some attention

my s2k has nearly 80K on it and i think the clutch is going...i am not sure that i understand what you are saying about slippage, but the pedal depresses much lower than before, lot of play in it, to change gears, i need to get past the play and the pedal nearly hits the floor

so the question is, how do i get this repaired for the least amount of $$$...as soon as i fix this, i am planning on selling the car, had it almost 4 years, just replaced the brakes for the first time and got a new radiator...it seems to have gotten to the point where its falling apart, although it was a great card until a few months ago

called the dealership and they are saying 1200, any advice?

That doesn't sound like a dying clutch corvett. Mine is on it's way out and engages right at the very top of the pedal stroke. I only have to push down about 1.5"-2" for it to disengage.

Another poster with similar symptoms ended up having a bad clutch master cylinder.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a slipping clutch at all. I would first start by changing and bleeding the clutch fluid. I had a similar problem with my last car, all that was wrong was some air in the line and the fluid level was down. After it was refilled and flushed, the engagement point went right back to where it should have been.

I think he meant chemistry (silicon), unless they are real, then he probably meant anatomy.

There is more involved than the clutch disc when you push down the pedal. When the clutch begins to fail, or 'slip', it gives way under load and the car simply revs without giving power to the drivetrain behind the clutch.
What you have is either bad fluid [clutch fluid is extremely effective in absorbing moisture and should be changed every 3 years], or failing master cylinder. I'm not sure if s2k's have a slave cylinder or how many bleeding points there are, either 1 or 2 for sure. I can't tell you how many people say they got their clutch changed out and the pedal feels much better, when all they needed was their system bled [which is done when you replace the clutch regardless]. It is still possible your clutch is failing, but that is certainly not the 1st thing to look at. First, check your fluid.

I have a similar problem.

It seems you can adjust your pedal if the clutch fluid change/bleed doesn't work.

I'm not sure how to adjust the pedal engagement point however if anyone knows how could they please explain it.
