Default Clutch Slipping

My clutch started slipping last night when i was in 6th gear. seems like when i drop it down to about 60 mph in 6th, and try to accelerate a bit harder than normal, it will slip and cause it to rev up. Is it normal that I cant vtec on how the clutch is right now? Because I tried to rev it up a bit but it didnt seem like I felt the pull of the vtec like usual.

What would I need to replace? Is it just the disc itself? or should I change out the pressure plate too. Ive been looking at an exedy oem kit on ebay for about $400.
Also do I need to resurface the flywheel and get a new throwout bearing?

Well for sure the clutch and throw out being will need to replaced, your flywheel may be resurfaced. Pressure plate could be reused depending on its condition.

Its really dependent on the condition of everything once its all removed. Personally I would definatly change the clutch, throwout bearing, and pressure plate reguardless of condition. However pilot bearing, and resurfacing the flywheel would depend on weather its needed or not. But thats just my opinion on things.

I just did a clutch replacement in my '00 at 75k miles. Since you're already pulling the tranny, you might as well get the flywheel resurfaced while you're at it. I believe it's recommended in the service manual too.

Resurfacing only cost me $40, and gave me the piece of mind that it was done right.

Even though the pilot bearing isn't required to replace, you might as well do that while you're in there too. Better to pay the $25 now for the new bearing, rather than deal with it squeeling at you down the road.

The service manual does mention about measuring something on the pressure plate, to see if it can be reused. I just replaced mine, as it was included in the OEM clutch kit.

Beware, the OEM clutch kit is not cheap. The best deal I found locally was at NAPA. They wanted $470 for clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. (manufacturer: Altrom). I got lucky and was able to get a Boeing discount, so I only paid $370.

The instructions I followed had me loosen the exhaust header. Honda recommends replacing the header gasket and the 7 header nuts. They also recommend replacing the driveshaft bolts. It would be a good idea to order all of those while you're at it, but not critical.

Oh, and watch out for the knock sensor! It's on the driver's side of the engine and gets in the way of the upper starter bolt. Even though I was warned, I managed to break mine (it's very fragile). And then, when putting in the used one I purchased, I broke it too! If you break yours, order a new one from majestic honda. (and remember, AP1 and AP2 knock sensors are different).

Oh, and why are you trying to go into vtec with a slipping clutch?

I will replace everything.

bearing
pressure plate
clutch
flywheel (unless resurfacing will do)

I view clutch work like t-belt and water pump. It's so much work to save $150 by not buying a well used part seems foolish. Imagine having to open her back up because you have a flywheel or pressure plate issue. Bah life's to short.

exactly. The job is a pain in the ass. I think it took me 20 shop hours. I could certainly do it quicker the next time around. But I'll postpone that as much as possible!
