Default Clutch sometimes slips after shifting

If I got WOT and shift hard at redline from 1st to 2nd and sometime from 2nd to 3rd the clutch will slip a little...

Symptoms include: rpms stay constant after shifting, then continue to rise and the car pulls hard... it feels similar to wheel spin.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Happened to me VERY obviously this weekend. Hit 3rd gear hard and the motor instantly went to redline. There were no marks on the road, and a nasty smell soon found its way into the cabin...hrmmm.
Of course 200lb/ft of torque is just about double what the stock clutch that slips when STOCK was designed to handle :-P

It may or may not be your clutch. It could possibly be that you are not rev matching well enough so that the engine and the rest of the drivetrain is spinning at more or less the same speed at the moment the clutch re-engages after the shift. If your engine speed is too high at that point, the clutch will have a hard time grabbing.

This is "normal" for a '04+ due to the clutch master cylinder. The '04+ models have a delay valve in the master cylinder that slows clutch engagement. You either need to replace your clutch master cylinder with an '00-'03 version, or wait for the clutch to fully engage before hitting the gas.

ahhh... doh. I had heard rumors of this in the past, but thanks for clairifying!!

I was wondering why Hardtop Guy sold the 00-03 clutch cylinder as an "upgrade" for the 04-05 cars.

It doesn't slip bad and I never smell it, it's just rather annoying. I'm sure my friction disc doesn't like it either =(

Do you know the reason why there is a slight delay engineered into the cylinder? These cars were meant to be driven the way I drive mine so there has to be some sort of reason for it.

The best theory for why Honda added the delay valve is to prevent clutch drops from damaging the rear end.

I had the same problem as well, but not for the same reason. Dumping the clutch after a shift will help prevent the slipping. ALL of the S2000 OEM pressure plates are weak. However, on the '04+ models, this same issue is greatly magnified by the delay valve.

A friend of mine (Elistan) has an '00 and an '04, and he complained about the same exact problem with his '04. He "upgraded" his master cylinder to an '00-'03 version to fix it.
