cm flywheel/clutch/pp == missfire?
Hi All,
Question: Can excessive chatter from new clutch setup cause misfires?
Reason: I've gotten 4 misfires about 1 month apart each, starting about 3 months after getting the new clutch. All 4 times were after starting the car and then going in reverse (yes reverse)... The new clutch set up causes A LOT of chattering if you don't engage just right... There is a very small window of throttle to clutch release to get the car moving without chatter... I've gotten very good going forward, but for some reason reverse is harder to do without getting the chatter....
Things I've tried:
1. Spark plugs were over 50K old, I know they are supposed to last till 100K, but I swapped them out for new ones. I compared the old ones to every thread I could find and to the best of my reasoning, there was nothing wrong with the old ones....
2. Started using lubecontrol FP60.. No noticeable change in engine... (used for over 1 month and still had 1 misfire)
3. About to get valves adjusted (should I do it?) it was done once before a track day about 3 years (35,000 miles) back
...
Some other info... Car has been tracked ~ 6days worth (autocrossed too).... 60K miles on the car.
Any comments greatly appreciated!

Do you mean CEL codes that say "Missfire"?
If so, what cylinder, is it always the same one?
If you mean that you allmost stall the cold engine, and its bucking a bit to stay alive.. that's part of your clutch setup I guess, as you allready figured too.
Long shot: maybe the knock sensor or the knock sensor connector got damaged when the clutch was installed and is sometimes working/sometimes not, especially with a bucking engine it may "fail"?

I do mean CEL codes... I have an OBDII scanner and read out when the check engine comes on... Its all cylinders + the random misfire code...
Only the first time I got a CEL did it say one cylinder (#4)... the other 3 times it was all cylinders + random ...
K I'll look into the knock sensor... Thanks!
