I just took posession of a mint 2002 s2k with only 20K miles. It has been garage kept and has had the oil changed "every 1500 miles" by the previous owner. I don't believe any other maintenance other than new tires and wash/wax has been performed.

What now? I am thinking of switching to Mobile 1 (actually I don't know the oil previously used and will try to get that info.) I am also thinking that I should have the Diff, Tranny and Brake fluids changed out due to age, not mileage. Does this sound like good advice or should I wait for 30,000 miles? I will then go to 3,000 to 5,0000 mile oil changes with the Mobile 1. Any suggestions or modifications to this plan I should be considering? Thanks in advance for the advice.

 

Definitely change all the fluids! See the Oil Journals sticky at the top of UTH for fluid info.

 

Sounds like a good plan to me. I would wait to at least 5k miles between oil changes with the Mobil 1. The biggest advantage to synthetic oil is the longer change interval. I change mine at 7.5k with Mobil 1.

 

You're off to a great start, change the clutch fluid while you're at it (DOT3 brake fluid works fine). I would go with whatever synthetic oil is cheapest, that's currently Pennzoil Platinum. Not a big fan of Mobil1 but use whatever makes you happy. I think your maintenance plan looks great.
