Ordered the new clips but I also have problems with wire looms shattering and now can see some wires exposed. Do we have any recommendations on wire looms we can use to protect the wires? Was thinking of just using self sealing silicone tape, but not sure if they will protect the wires from heat.
I used a Tesa adhesive cloth tape.

Thanks to this post and help from others, I managed to replace the locking connectors. It was a good thing as the housing was literally falling apart and they were no longer was usable as I pulled them out. The pins pulled out easily without having to release them from the housing. IMO, I think the aluminum plug cover is a bad design all it does is trap the heat and the plastic connectors suffers over time. There should have been some cooling vents on the cover.

Cycle terminal is an amazing source....Joe is an incredible guy and very helpful via email.....I love making my own harnesses and such, and sourcing connector components is almost an obsession; this guy gets it....I've always found what I've needed from Cycle Terminal....very good photo references of the connectors too, I've been able to successfully match up a lot of what I've needed by taking photos and comparing them to the site pics unless the application is specifically stated.

My favorite is that people use spade connectors to tap power from the open sockets in the under-dash fusebox........That's fine, but there's a proper connector for that....a certain site lists them for like 10 bucks a piece....you can get them for a fraction of the price at cycle terminal...I understand doing due diligence and figuring things out and charging a price for it; but what they're doing is straight up robbery.

Anyways back to the topic. Nice work, and another +1 for cycleterminal. Place has been an absolute lifesaver for me.

Default my plug repair

Here is my repair pics, the parts I got from Cycleterminal looks original, they are perfect. As you can see the plastic was so brittle I kept pieces of it from falling into the spark plug holes by keeping the coils in place. If you have 70k+ miles I recommend replacing these connectors. I actually did 4 things while I had the valve cover off. 1 -adjusted the valves, 2 -replace the valve seals ,3- replace spark plugs, 4- replace these connectors.

Also ordered a set of these connectors. I recently did my plugs on my 02 AP1 w/ 54k miles. These connectors came off without a hitch and nothing broke, but I ordered 8 of them. When I'm going through everything again this spring I'll swap them out and I'll have a set as a backup that I doubt I'll ever need, but they'll be there.

Hey Guys...

Firstly, I wanted to thank OP for sharing his findings. A lifesaver...forums in general, actually.
I wanted to add that I also had broken off the clips for both cam position sensors and although
pushing them on is probably fine...now that I found this thread and it worked so well for my
ignition coils I figured I'd take pictures and try and find the other ones. I'll report back if I'm right but
I ordered 2 of these...should have figured it out first before having to pay shipping twice but oh well.Female HX090-2 $3.75 each Terminals and seals

Sumitomo part number 6189-0552 6918-1260 - Genuine Japan

Look up "tesa tape" and research the different part #'s for interior/exterior use.
