Hi everyone,

My car (2008MY, european spec F20C2 engine, 60k miles) makes some rattling noise when started cold, and after a few minutes of driving it disappears completely. I adjusted the valves to 0.009" intake and 0.011" exhaust, replaced TCT to a new one and checked idler and tensioner pulley bearings - both seemed healthy.

Does anybody know what can cause this rattle? Is it problematic or normal?

Do yoy know what causes this rattle and why it is present only when cold?

 

Mine sounds exactly the same, if that eases your mind.

 

Because the pistons are not expanded when cold <piston slap>

 

yeah it sounds good. Forged piston slap , so it is normal. I have heard that some oils are better than others at reducing piston slap noise, but not sure which brands, and piston slap is not damaging in any way.
