Default On collecting engine data...

Question:

You can select four of the following parameters to be recorded for every trip you take in your car.
Which four do you select and why? What data would be most important should one want to prove
that an engine failure (knock on wood) was not due to driver abuse or error?

Engine Speed

Coolant Temperature

Engine Load

Intake Manifold Pressure

Air Flow Rate

Intake Air Temperature

Timing Advance

Fuel Pressure

Fuel System Status

Short Term Fuel Trim (B1)

Short Term Fuel Trim (B2)

Long Term Fuel Trim (B1)

Long Term Fuel Trim (B2)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S1)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S2)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S3)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B1, S4)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S1)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S2)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S3)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S4)

Battery Voltage

Thanks for playing

engine speed, manifold pressure, timing and primary o2 sensor voltage are the four i most often look at.

i don't believe there is any way to monitor fuel pressure and air flow from the ecu side, you would need additional hardware to do that (e.g. fuel pressure sender and the appropriate interface)

tps is an interesting and useful variable as well. but frankly, in terms of "proving a lack of driver abuse" the MOST important is engine speed... in terms of proving that you never mis-shifted. ECT would speak to maintenance performed to a degree, if the car overhheated.

looks like you bought the new "Driveright" ODBII chip for your car :-)
I have the same and I think it is pretty good.
I monitor engine speed, manifold pressure, timing and engine load with it.

It is very easy because you plug it to your ODBII connector and it saves all the data for about 300 hours.
I use it to check what the do with my car when I have it in the shop.
I can kick but big time when they take it for a spin :-)
