Thats what i got, oem hard top, no motor or anything else. I also think the hard top weighs less that 44lbs but thats just me, if he weighed it i guess it does...

and by saying you can't go topless on a whim i think he means you have to be somewhere you can leave your top and comeback to it later.

I think the weight savings are a huge benefit. 66 lbs compared to 17lbs is a 49lbs weight difference. Considering the fact that every 10lbs equals roughly 1 HP, you're gaining about 5HP and cutting weight from the most important part of the car, up high. Add a STB and an X-brace and that thing will handle like a go-kart.

I still mean only the motor and the wiring. He obviously weighed everything that went into the soft-top assembly (very dedicated & cool). I'm only passing on information I've collected from past threads. My previous post still stands -- notice that the car in question is indeed a dedicated track car, or so I presume from the pictures (completely gutted).

By the way, I meant the ability to simply go back to being able to drop your top anytime you wish. You can obviously take the hardtop off, but never again can you do it on-the-fly even if you take the hardtop off unless you reinstall everything -- which, from a recent DIY soft-top replacement thread, isn't that easy.

Sorry for the ambiguity in my previous post.

and with the top down it is lowering the center of gravity by bringing the 64 pounds down lower

You will shed about 22lbs if you gut the softop and run the OEM top/ Mugen FRP top. If you run the Mugen CF top you will shed about 33lbs.

you could also go with a complete CF body kit for the price of the CF hard top and probably lose more than 33 pounds not to mention, keep the convertable and look cooler!

I plan on doing this once I collect some more coins and possibly a 1UP. The Seibon unit I want weighs 17 lbs and of course hardware adds to that. But I want to do a cage and remove everything from that part of the car, soft top, motors, tray, area behind the seats, secret compartment and all. I've looked at the numbers before and it seams like I'm in for atleast a 75lb savings.

Someone will know the right answer for sure but I am definitely going to get this done. The noise is what I'm afraid of now.
Seibon HT weighs 17 lbs Even the Mugen CF weights 34lbs.

I don't know the weight of each but I have the Seibon CF hardtop with the whole soft top taken out. It is a significant amount of weight difference. I can actually lift my CF top myself but don't becuz I'd probaly drop it becuz I won't be able to hold it properly. The FRP mugen to is pretty heavy. I helped lift his off his car once and was very surprised of the weight.
