Default Completely removed air box?

Hey, I just completely removed the stock air box and ran a K&N air filter. Is this dangerous? Would any of you definitely not suggest doing this? Will I even notice any gains in throttle response, intake loudness? I will be making a bracket to hold the filter up so that it doesn't just hang and look bad or potentially fall off.

I should note...I don't daily drive the car which means I don't drive in the rain too often (unless I get stuck in it).

Also, what is this? It was attached to the air box. Does it need to be grounded?

No need to ground that.

You are going to lose at least 10-14 hp without the airbox, I've proven it many years ago. Removing the box is a very bad idea.

If you want that sound, but want to keep the HP, just get a k&n FIPK kit.

Somehow I don't believe in 10-14hp. Would this be from heatsink? Does anyone have the post where this was proven?

You are losing hp from heat from the engine period. Why remove something that was shielding most of the heat??? The question is, why did you remove the oem box?

That air filter is located right behind the cooling fans tha are designed to push hot air in that location. I don't remember the exact formula but you lose power for every degree increase in intake temps, it is something like 1% power change for every 10 degrees. Seeing that the air coming off the rads can be 170-180 degrees it would't take much to lose 10-20 hp in low speed driving conditions and when taking off from a stoplight.

The solenoid valve mounts to the air box and I'd rather have it affixed to the box rather than leaving it loose, the round black item on the top of the valve is an air filter and it can fall off if the valve sees too much movement.

yup. all that heat from the radiator being sucked up by the intake- what you made there is a hot air intake. I imagine on a hot day the car would seem really sluggish off a stop light...but it would sound wicked good at that vtec crossover point.

Yeah that's what I figured but to what degree I was unsure. Well thank you all for your input. I will probably leave it like this as it is on jack stands in my garage. Will buy the fipk intake as mentioned.
