to get numbers like 228...

Car must be hot, and just shut off.

Throttle at WOT.

Fuel pump disabled.

All plugs out.

That's my technique, and I get 240-255 every time.

With a cold engine (and all other variables the same), I still think I blow about 220-230psi, though.

Never tried adding oil to the mix, though.

240ish is what I have heard before from these cars. I PM'ed someone about it once. They got all 235 +- 5psi or something.

You can do it any time you feel like it. I check mine fairly regularly because I drive the car hard and I've also done things to my engine that make me concerned about its health. (Plus, it takes all of 30 minutes to check it).

For a regular car, as long as you're not experiencing any problems and haven't abused the engine, you may never need to check compression... however, I'd do it ASAP just to get a baseline. Then check it maybe every 10-20K miles, especially if you drive the car hard.

That's just my opinion, though.

I just got my AP2 and as soon as I get a chance I'm going to do a compression test on it. I have a 1993 civic si (which I'm going to sell) with the original motor SOHC Vtec and it has 123k miles. I did the compressino testr on it and it read 210 respectively. One or two I don't remember exactly were 209(motor been raced plenty). Your motor is much newer than the 14 yr old motor w/ less miles and IMO I would take to the dealr if you still got warranty and try to get a new motor idk try it. If my motor throws low #'s I'm definitely going to the dealer.
