Hi, recently I installed a test pipe on my s2000 and sometimes it smokes white under idle. Today though it smoked a lot more then usual.
Ran a compression test and these were the results:

Dry: 210 210 190 200
Wet: 215 220 210 210

Was wondering if that white smoke was because of the test pipe really, because it smoked alot and smelled funny.

 

White smoke when first started is normal. If white smoke continues you could have an internal coolant leak, i.e., cracked head/blown head gasket. Black smoke is caused by a rich fuel condition. Blue smoke is caused by oil consumption.

does is smell like coolant when you say it smells funny? could be the start of a problemo.

 

no, doesnt smell sweet. Also it smoked once and doesnt smoke any more. Its confusing... how do the compression numbers look? It doesnt look like there is a head gasket failure also if I did have the headgasket failure i would keep smoking white still. I would atleast see it, but I dont see anything.

I came to the point since I have the test pipe on, it smokes once in a while, and sometimes will smoke more then usual. It just smelt like unburnt crap

 

Compression looks fine. Nominal is 228 +/- 28psi so your in range.

White = not a biggy unless your headgasket is leaking into the cylinder etc. etc. but that'd be solid smoking at a set amount in general I'd think.

 

ya, drove the car today seems fine like the day I bought it. Just that test pipe is making me paranoid Lol. Someone told me my compression numbers were terrible thought.....

 

look for them to be close together... they're not fantastic but they're not terrible.

Honda says +/- 28psi.... your on the low side but still fine. Mine were all 200psi as well when healthy.

 

i think my numbers are low because I used a cheapo compression tester from autozone.... going to use my friends good one tomorrow and then ill post updates

 

those numbers look fine. also, dont worry about the numbers being too low. the point of a compression test is to look at the difference among cylinders, not how high the number is.
