Default Comptech Intake Noise??

I know this has been discussed before, But who has totally eliminated the intake resonance before VTEC. My first install was real noisy from 2k rpms to 6k rpms. The noise was driving me nuts, so I reinstalled it today. I also do not have a hood rubbing issue and the box sits flat on the frame rail. I noticed upon removal where the AC line was rubbing the box(the high pressure non insulated one) and so was the horns electrical plug. I rotated the horn about 30 degrees back and placed insulating foam where the AC line runs along the shock tower and the bottom of the box and where it sits on the rail. I also noticed that the airbox lid would rub in spots so I used the self sticking foam on those areas to. Now I only have this annoying resonance from 4.8k rps to 6k rpms. This noise seems like it is coming from the passenger side dash/door area. I have the comptech exhaust to, so does this add to the resonance problem or is some of this normal? This is my first Honda and the first CAI I have put on a car before so I do not know if this is normal. BTW, the sound with the CAI and the exhaust is incredible when you VTEC!!!

If it's a rumble noise, then it's completely normal.

If it's more like a rattle, then something's not right.

If it's like a whistling, then that's also normal.

Here is what I did to solve the resonance problem.

I took a piece of high-density packing foam, the kind used in packing electronics. The piece was 3/8th of an inch thick and a 4 1/2 x 6 inch rectangle. I used it to cover the hole on the top of the air box where the support rod goes. This solved the problem !!!

Pic1 is of the completed install of the CAI. ( Sorry about the reflection from the florescent lights. )

Pic2 is with the piece of in place.

Pic3 shows the thickness of the foam.

This fix really works ! Plug the hole.

You could get some gray foam and glue it to the foam pad on the hood. This way you don't have to remove it or worry about it, cause it will always be there.

Everybody posting their engine pic so I guess I will too....

So if you cover the hole where the hood support rod goes....where does the hood support rod go?

The hood support goes where it always goes, no change there. After the rod is placed in the clip, cover the hole, then close the hood.

Thats why you put the hood rod in the hole first, then put the foam on, and last close the hood.

Thats why if you glue the extra pad to the heat pad on the hood you just do everything the way you always did.
