Default Convertible Top Replacement

Hola people,

So I've been going though the previous discussions on this and it looks like it's very much not rare for a tear in the top to appear where I've been watching my tear get bigger and bigger over the last 6 months.

From the past discussions, it also looks like something that is fixable under warranty. Problem here is my car is out of warranty at this point, so I'm going to be fixing this out of pocket. Here are my questions for all of you.
  • Where will I be able to find a cheap OEM top?
  • How much would you expect to pay for labor on this replacement?
  • Is the installation simple enough that I can do it myself?
  • Is there anything I can do that would simply patch it until I get a new top and so it doesn't get worse?

Thanks everyone! -R

I would try and find a replacement. The patch is a temp fix at most and eventually you're going to need to replace the top. A used one can be had on the forums or you can go with a Robbins top. When I replaced my softtop in my 02' me and a couple friends got it done in a few hours with no prior experience. It's a PITA though but you save a few hundred dollars.

How would I go about patching it up? Is there a kit made for this or something and is there one you guys recommend?

I'm looking through the instructions for replacing the top and it seems to be quick a pain in the ass. Do you think it's possible to find an OEM top or Robbins top and have a dealer or other party do the installation? How much do you think labor is? A couple hundred?

I know how much the OEM top is. I'm looking at the Robbins top but I'm not seeing a price. Does anyone know how much these are?
