coolant bypass
Correct - the Hondata gasket closes off the coolant path that would go to the TB and IAC valve.
check page 2 of this link for a source for the gasket, about 1/3 of the way down...

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "easy", I would say this mod rates a 7, not because it's overly complex or technical, but because it is uncomfortable to perform (lower back - ow) and frustrating to get to all the bolts/nuts (absolutely need 1/4" drive extensions and a 14mm socket/swivel combo).
While you're at it - you may as well throw in a Mugen/Spoon/Speed thermostat in while you have the intake off.
And DO NOT mix up the vacuum and coolant lines that are right next to each other on the driver's side of the intake manifold, or you will be sucking coolant out of cylinders 1, 2, and 3 with a long drinking straw.

I used some engineering formulas and estimate at best a few degrees of temp drop, which is negligible. I understand why racers do it (I did on my 85 Z51 Vette to reduce leaks) but it is like giving an enema to a dead man.

Keep in mind all my info is for the full insulator and not just the coolant line bypass- the head is at the same temp as the water (or hotter) and communicates a LOT of heat through the head/manifold interface (a lot of surface area). My guess is that the coolant line presents less than half of the heating to the manifold.
For someone not willing to do the work of the insulator it's a relatively easy way to reduce some of the heating and pick up some power. Whether or not it's worth it is up to the owner.
