Default coolant question

Hey guys,

I'm low on coolant, previous owner said he never did a coolant flush or change. The coolant is green (thought from factory should be blue). I got some Honda type 2 coolant. Is it safe to mix or should I just flush the system and replace it all with the Honda coolant?

Thanks,

Tom

Flush it. I've always heard the type-I (green) and type-II (blue) are not compatible.

Why would my 2002 have Type 1, supposedly coolant was never changed.

I'm thinking in 02' they updated to Type-II. Yours could have been one of the remaining 02's to use Type-I? My 2000 still had the Type-I when I changed it at 55K.

is it true that type II coolant used to be green? In this case can I just mix the type II blue coolant with the coolant that is in my system now instead of flushing the system? I only have a 2002 with 30k miles.

Its the difference between me having to do a whole flush (its annoying to do it properly and I'll have to buy a bunch of coolant) versus just topping it off with Honda Type II.

Early type II coolant was green. The coolant delivered in a 02 would be green or blue depending when the car was built. The car still has type II no matter what color it is.
