Default cranking issue

I just got done installing a ACT HDPP and ap1 flywheel in a local's ap2. Now the car will not start. I can hear the starter spinning, but it does not make contact with the flywheel to turn the motor over. It just makes a high pitch, high speed sound. The flywheel was used (resurfaced) and had minor wear on the outer teeth, but nothing that would indicate an issue. The starter also had typical wear on the gear teeth. I removed the starter and tested it at 2 different places and it passed at both. The sound the starter is making is similar to the sound during testing (no load). Car is in neutral. I turned the engine over by hand several times to ensure that nothing was seized and to reinspect the teeth on the flywheel. The little black and white wire is connected to the starter- when disconnected, starter makes no noise. Starter relay is good and so is the starter signal fuse under the dash. Battery is a couple months old and has been on a battery tender during troubleshooting. There were no known starting issues prior to the clutch replacement. Can't seem to figure out why it is not turning over.

Is the starter's solenoid pushing the bendix drive forward to meet the flywheel?

If starter gear wasn't being thrust forward (well, technically it would be rearward) to engage the flywheel as mentioned, it really shouldn't allow starter motor to spin, as it shouldn't get current to electric motor until gear is fully extended.

I'm wondering if maybe the starter isn't fully seating into position. That something is holding it away, blocking it. Something that still allows you to tighten down the bolts, yet starter is too far away, free to spin in the air and not engage flywheel.

Its so hard to see down there, to know if starter is fully seated into position.

Hot jumped the starter directly from the battery. The starter engaged and the motor started without issue. The only issue seems to be when trying to use the factory ignition system. There appears to be a short somewhere, but I have not been able to find it.

your likely missing b positive signal from the ignition switch.. i would double check your connections and also make sure you didnt accidentally pinch or damage the signal wire
