Crankshaft pulley
Just as the title says, I removed my comptech SC tonight . When I tried to put back on the factory crankshaft pulleythe keyway would not go all the way in flush with the face of the pulley. When i start the crankshaft bolt, it hits the key and if I tighten it anymore it will bend the Key. It is still protruding about 1/4"-1/2" past where the washer on the crankshaft bolt should meet the face of the pulley.WTF

It sounds like the chain gear isn't lined up with the keyway in the crankshaft, and the key isn't engaging the gear. Did you take the pulley off with the engine in time? It's either that, or you are putting the key in upside down.

This just happened to us the other day when we did and install.
Sound like you have your crankshaft key in the wrong direction. What angle did you put the key in?
Your best bet is to remove the bolt, remove the pulley and reset the key BEFORE the pulley.
DO NOT bend the key!!!
If it's stuck you can tap it out like we did and reset it.

So does the small end of the key go in facing ( toward) the crankshaft with the straight edge lying on the crankshaft and beveled side up ? SlowS2K what do you mean in time? I took the Comptech pulley off and may have rotated the crankshaft before I tried to install the stock pulley....Is that a problem? Suggestions to get it in?

The key goes in beveled edge down, toward the crank.
If you remove the key with the timing gear not in the 12 o-clock postion, the gear can spin and you won't be able to get the key back in until you line the keyway in the crank up with the keyway in the gear.

Oh OK thanks, So I should I just try rotating the crankshaft little by little until it lines up with the gear ,will that work as long as I have it oriented in the right way?

As long as you don't get it out of time.
BTW thanks for your help

At this point, get the keyway in the gear. you can't rotate the engine without the keyway. The only way you check to see if the cams are in time is to remove the valve cover, and check the timing marks on the cam gears and crank pulley.
The Helm manual has pictures of what it should look like.
Some of the valve adjustment threads may also have pics.
