If you install the key in both the crankshaft and the gear, it should be in time.

If you crank the motor over more than 180 degree's without the gear engaged with the key, you could be SOL.

If you haven't cranked the motor over without the key engaged, so the crank doesn't turn without the cams, your alright.

Just line up the keyways on both the crank and the gear and install the key.

how can I be sure when I install the pulley it will be in time..
There is only one keyway on both the crank as well as the gear. That means, if you line up the keyways on both the crank and the gear, and install the key, it can only be in time.

OK I found that the keyway for the timing gear is in about the three o clock position... I know when I removed the crankshaft pulley the keyway was in the 7-8 oclock position I guess the timing gear could have rotated? when I was trying to get the keyway in?. I rotated the crank 360 clockwise by hand trying to get the key in but is was not engaged or not fully engaged with the timing gear,. So I guess I will rotate the crank back counterclockwise to where it was when I started 7-8oclock position. Then rotate clockwise to meet the timing gear 3 oclock position? Then verify timing with the cam cover off?

DON'T start this engine untill you verify the cams and crankshaft are in time. If you try to start it out of time, you will be bending valves.

I'm just curious, I remember some other member mentioning about a harmonic balancer at the crankshaft pulley so does the Comptech pulley has a harmonic balancer as well ?

I know this.

So if you hold the cams stationary, with the key out, you have to rotate the crank two turns to be in correct time.
Why would anyone rotate the crankshaft two times without turning the cams

When I said put the key back in the keyway, it was with intentions that neither the crankshaft, or the cam gear had turned 360 degree's. Since there is only one keyway on both the cranckshaft and the cam gears, you would have to rotate either one 360 degree's to throw off the valve timing.
