Default Cross Threaded Plug?

Ok well heres the story, I bought my car a little over a year ago and I have been yet to do the plugs. I went to the auto parts store and picked up some new plugs, So cylinders 2,3 &4 came out perfectly, but cylinder 1 started coming out about 4 turns then stopped, I let it sit in some pb blaster and I finally got it out. So now I'm like ok the a$$h@le before me cross threaded the plug into the cylinder.. Well now I can only get a new plug in 4 complete turns then it snugs up to the point where my muscles are tensing up.. At this point I've gotten alot of advice from a couple friend that know their shit.. But I'm just looking to see if anyone has had this problem and you got it fixed and what was done.. I know I can get it retapped at a machine shop and if that doesn't work the head needs to come off and everything has to be done that way.. Please let me know your thoughts!!

I may be wrong but I believe that the head will probably have to come off. If it is not cross threaded too badly, it may be able to just be retapped. If it is really bad, a helicoil may be needed. Either way will create aluminum chips that you don't want inside the cylinder. Bear in mind that I am not speaking from experience, just speculating.

This same thing happened to me in my last AP2. Mine was on #2. Its an ez fix!

Step 1. Pull old plug out..

Step 2. Fill cylinder with Shaving Cream all the way to the plug threads..

step 3. Rethread (retapp) the spark plug thread in the head..

info- . The old threads and stuff will fall down and get stuck on top of the shaving cream..

step 4. BY HAND.. turn motor over so the piston gets to the top of that cylinder wall..

Info.. The piston will have pushed all the shaving cream out the top with all the head shavings. You may still have very little cream left in the head but it will all burn up right as you start it. But there will not be any head shaving in the cylinder.

Step 5. Put new plug in and tq to I think 18.

step 6. Drive the car around and make sure the plug is in good (because of the rethread) After the car cools down recheck the tq and you should be good to go ...

Hope that helps

That is a great idea, one to keep in mind for future similar issues.
Thanks
