Default Cruise Control Indicator

I've noticed recently that the Cruise Control indicator on the dash is sometimes on. The Cruise Control isn't ON. I've tried cycling the button, but the indicator stays ON? I've only used the Cruise Control to test it, but I haven't tried it since this issue started. The next time I'm on open road, I'll test it. Anyone had this issue?

When the indicator on the cluster is on does cruise function? Aka pressing the set button on the steering wheel, will it actuate? I wanna believe this may be potentially a faulty cruise control switch? When you cycle the button on the bezel does the green light illuminate on the button itself?

When I tried the switch, the green LED lights. Turning it OFF doesn't removed the dash indicator; the switch LED does turn off. I haven't tried the cruise control when the switch is OFF and the indicator is ON, but I'll try that the next time I see it. I did confirm that the cruise control works normally - the indicator illuminates when the speed is set and it turns off when I turn off the cruise.

On the '06 with DBW the Cruise Control is On by default -- the green LED on the panel switch will be on when you start the car. It should turn off when you press the switch. It's not a real switch as it doesn't click off and on, it just sends a momentary signal to the ECU which controls a bunch of stuff. Activating cruise control itself is controlled by the keys on the steering wheel -- which also send signals to the ECU. Unlike the earlier cars the DBW throttle and cruise control are all electronic, no mechanical.

If yours isn't working like this or you can't activate cruise control with the steering wheel keys there's "something wrong."

Both the Service Manual and wiring diagrams are in the library here. Start your troubleshooting there.

(My Fords have cruise control Off by default and it's a PITA to turn it on, First world problem,)

Your switch is broken (or has been replaced with the wrong switch). The '06 Cruise control master switch is a real 2-position switch with an "in" position and an "out" position. "Out" is off "in" is on. The built-in LED on that switch will indicate if cruise is available or not. I keep having to turn it back on when overzealous car detailers accidentally toggle it. The steering wheel controls for cruise to engage/control cruise are momentary switches.

Thanks, I was working off memory regarding the switch. I never touch it. Cruise is always available.

Forgive me as it's been awhile since I had my AP2 but doesn't it have a cruise control On/Off button on the cluster behind the blinker?
Pressing that enables the cruise control and then the steering wheel control should Set, Cancel, Resume, and/or control speed.

My switch itself had some issues originally but using a steam cleaner to help free up the switch then some canned air to blow them out did the trick.

I saw the dash cruise control indicator illuminated again yesterday. I tried to engage the cruise control without touching the On/Off button on the dash. The cruise control did not engage. Cycling the On/Off button has no effect on the instrument cluster indicator.

The button on the dash does function. The green LED lights when it's depressed and I was able to Set the cruise control speed. The Accelerate and Cancel buttons on the steering wheel operated normally. The indicator does turn off when I turn On and use the cruise control then turn it Off.

As far as I can tell, the cruise control works as it is supposed to. The dash button turns it On, the steering wheel controls operate. My only symptom is an intermittently illuminated indicator on the instrument cluster.
