I may look into Castrol Edge or other synthetics. My concern is, the previous owner used regular dino oil and if I switch over at the mileage I am currently at, what kind of ill effects that will have.

i wonder if you could swap valve covers, or something like that? i know i have seen some random after market ones... if its the pcv routing i wonder if it would help much. Also, stick an inline fuel filter to see what shows up, maybe alot of oil, and guess what, there you go, you have an ap1 for sure! my oil consumption is nothing if i drive like its a piece of glass. Very large amounts if im racing it.

Also, around here it seems Mobil 1 burns more than any other oil in an S engine.

03 silverstone with 120000 miles on er all original. She always gets a work out and doesn't use a noticable amount of oil. Penzoil Ultra Synthetic oil used.

i noticed 3 things
Time you are in VTEC is directly related to oil consumption
Revving to 9000 revs, burning oil is better than scarring cylinder walls
How black your exhaust tips are is also directly related to amount of time in vtec

None - I personally think there is little performance difference in the oils until you start getting into extended oil change intervals and the oils have been put through use. Switching to synth will not cause any harm.

Seems to me that there are alot of good reviews in regards to Castrol Edge Syn, I plan on running 5w30 Amsoil this season, but may look at using the Castrol next yr based on the possitive reviews I've read about.

The only downside to Castrol Edge is the price. It's usually the most expensive on the shelf.

yes it is, but I think if you compare it to Amsoil or Mobil 1, it's cheaper I believe
