I noticed the exhaust valve stem seals have been updated more than once. Can anyone offer any input as to material change, etc?

I am about to do this job, will try your method using TDC, did you have enough clearance to put the keepers on with the valve dropped down abit?

You need the rope trick if you use the hammer tool because it's almost impossible to use if the valve drops a mm or two. If you use the screw tool that mounts on the head, then you can just let the valve drop on top of the TDC piston. Because you can compress the spring enough to clear the valve stem tip.
