Default Day time running lights

I apologize if this question has been answered before.

I have heard that the canadian S` come with Daytime running lights but in the US, can you take your car to the dealer and have them modify the settings in the EPROM or something?

I am trying to see if this will lower my insurance payments.

Thanks

Many (most?) cars with daytime running lights have a lower intnsity low beam that use less electricity. You are suggesting having your Xenon headlamps on whenever the car is running. There is nothing wrong with this, but it will reduce the life of the headlamps.

You may want to consider having fog lights installed in the side vents in your front bumper. The Odyssey fog lights can be made to fit in these vent areas. It is not easy, but it can be done. You can do a search to find a thread that shows how someone did this.

I wouldn't suggest having the HID's on all the time, but I'm not denouncing it either. I'd try fog lights first.

I believe that GM cars use the high-beam lamps at 1/2 power for the DRLs. Doing this would not harm the HIDs. I wouldn't mind having DRLs. A small silver car on a grey New England day is not easy to see.

The Canadian DRL's use the high beam at reduced power. The HID's are not affected. However, there's a DRL module that controls this function. It is a separate little box under the dash. It is not just a simple command that you can give the ECU. DRL's activation is also tied into the handbrake and of course must turn off when the headlights are turned on.
If you really want DRL's on your S2000, duplicating what the factory does might be very expensive. You might be better off to get one of those aftermarket DRL controllers. Wiring in fog lights will be a high power draw.
Do a Google search to find them.

On some cars, well very few can the computer be told to turn the DRL's on. I believe that BMW have this and that is probably about it. GM has been known to use a separate system for their DRL's. Look at the pickups; they do not use the high beam or the low beam. On some of the cars they use the turn signals. I would wish they would just get rid of the DRL's and let Canada keep them.
