Ap1 coils are also more expensive. I like to go with the 04-05 coil listing for my ap1 as they are much less expensive and reported to be a better coil in some circles.

I took some notes when I was shopping for coil packs - this is for 00-05 cars, 06+ have a different coil pack.
Denso is the OEM supplier.
OEM Part Numbers
2000-2003: 30520-PCX-007 ($103 from Majestic Honda)
2004-2005: 30520-PNA-007 ($52 from Majestic Honda) - or - this is the same as the coil pack/part # for the RSX and a dozen other Hondas, probably the easiest to find. Works great in all pre 06 S2000s.
Denso part numbers:
#673-2301 = RSX/04-05 S2000 coil part # ($40 from Amazon) = 30520-PNA-007
#673-2300 = AP1 coil ($93 from denso, $80 from Amazon)
As slowcrash mentioned, Autozone weirdly stocks the AP1 Denso coil pack - their internal item # is C1265. It's sold in a Duralast box but it is made by Denso for AP1 and says "099700-0430” - DENSO - Made in Japan - on the side, just like the 13yo coilpack I pulled out of my 2002 s2k. It was $70 and works beautifully.

Great info
I think the ap1 coil pricing is much higher strictly based on volume of sales/production, and not any difference in quality or construction of the coil itself. Some people have reported the 04-05 coil is better than the ap1 version, but that is mostly anecdotal evidence based on use in boosted applications.
I know when you buy a part that is strictly used on the s2000 only, you end up paying double the price compared to a part that is shared with other Honda models like the Civic and RSX. I assume the coils work the same way.

Gotta agree. Right now I'm trying to find an alternate source for 31127-PCX-J01, the alternator rectifier. I'm convinced there's gotta be another rectifier that works that's not $180.

Hey guys, I've read your posts and have a question. I have an 02 S2K with 100K miles on it. One of my coils is bad and needs to be replaced. So I'm thinking to replace all 4 given they're original with 100K on them. I've been told the 2004-2005 Denso coils will work just fine on my 2002. It's a different part number and the price is HALF what 2002 Denso coils cost. Do any of you know anything about this? is it legit? If I can save about 1/2 off the price of 02 coils, then I can buy more toys to add to my baby.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
