Unhappy Did i mess up?

So i started my car today, and when i started it, the engine half started then bogged and died but then started right up on the second try. so i popped the hood and checked the fluids. I checked my oil and noticed that it was 2 X's away from low? i had checked my oil a week before and it was full???? so i poured in half a quart and went along my way. I checked it again just now and i think that it might be above the full line..... could it have been that when i started the engine and then turned it off to check the fluids that the oil didn't drip down so i got an inaccurate reading which prompted me to pour in more oil? do i have too much oil now? how bad is this?

you will get the most accurate reading on a level surface after the car has warmed up.

your original oil level was indeed low but was not dangerous especially if you were just idling.

just recheck your level after the car is warm and you'll be able to make a good judgement - and don't panic! as long as you are not beating the crap out of your car it can be a bit low on oil and you'll be fine. if you end up having too much oil, just drain some out.

^if youre burning that much, you'll see a assload of smoke coming out of your engine... thats like running a 2stroke alerady..lol

try check your engine oil when its cold only - not the best way, but that way you'll be sure you'll get the same readings with all the oil dripped back into the pan.

as long as you didnt go below the L you should be fine?

Did you allow time for the oil to drain from the upper parts of the engine down to the pan? See my post about checking oil here https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...&#entry14836433 or specifically this procedure here http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=12141
