Maybe I'm just sloppy, but I have never mananged to be efficient enough to fill the diff from one bottle of Mobil1. I always have enough spilled or left in the bottom of the bottle or left in the pump and hoses that I am into the second bottle before I have filled the diff.

 

yeah but 1.75 is a lot more than the .8 required. that means you'd have wasted an entire quart of mobil 1 onto the floor....

i just did mine and even with spilling a fair amount on the floor and on myself and in my mouth (dont ask), i used only one bottle and was able to have some spill out when the car was level.

Potentially though if the car was at the right angle you could fit a bunch extra in there but it would all come out if the fill bolt was removed when the car is level

 

The right amount of diff fluid is (0.78) US qt. The amount of diff fluid required for a complete rebuild is (0.81) US qt. If you are changing you fluid all you need is 0.78qt, no more no less. This information is from the S2000 service manual.

 

This is exactly the amount it took to fill my diff last week when I installed 4.44 gears in my MY04.

 

are you talking about the diff or the tranny??

on a side note i noticed when i was changing the diff fluid upon loosening the fill bolt (i did that before the drain just incase), a lot of fluid came out and the car was level, which means that someone filled it with extra, i suspect that when the diff is filled at shops they tend to jack up just the rear of the car.

 

I recently did my rear diff change(Thanks to X DIY). I used LE-607( very thick) i only used on 1 bottle and there's still little left in the bottle.

 

Diff. 4.44 gears go in the diff, not the tranny

Also, I did the fill, and it was completly level.

Seems like AP2 diff take in more fluid

 

If you jack up one end of the car, you can easily get 1 1/2 quarts inside the diff. I did that once, and after 100-200 miles, there was a slight smell of gear oil, but there was no leak. The next time I changed the gear oil, I used about a quart, and no more gear oil smell.

It is possible that the MB tech put 1 3/4 quarts inside the diff.
