Default Diff and Gearbox Oils- Quantity?

Would I be correct in thinking that I need just under a Litre of Diff oil and 2 Litres of Gearbox Oil. Im having both changed and the redline stuff put in instead as I hear it is better than the OE stuff. ?

You will need 1 litre (quart) of GL-5 (gear lube) for the gearbox (differential gears). You will need 2 litres (quarts) of manual transmission fluid for the transmission. From what I've seen on this website, Redline does make adequate products for this purpose. I perdonally use GM Synchromesh with friction modifiers for the transmission, and LE-607 for the gearbox. I hope this helps.

Since you can't purchase them in smaller quantities, you have to buy this much

The diff doesn't take the whole quart, and the tranny doesn't take two. I think most people however, will fill all the fluid they can get in, then let the excess drip out to ensure filling to the correct level. Both of these procedures are well documented in the FAQ, if this is your first time.

[nit picking mode] "Gearbox" and "differential gears" are two separate and different things. In this context, we all know what you mean, but in another context, this would be very confusing.
"Gearbox" is the transmission.
"Differential gears" would apply to the rear differential or final drive gears or Limited Slip Differential or "rear end" or "pumpkin".
You don't want to get these two concepts mixed up nor do you want to get the fluids for these two mixed up. [/nit picking mode]

Thanks for the clarification Xviper. I didn't want to confuse anyone, but it has always been easier for me to remember that transmission fluid is for the transmission and gear lube (GL-5) is for the gearbox (differential), whether it's an automatic or manual transmission. I'll try my best to go with your corrections.
