I need to switch out my diff oil since i know it's never been changed (35 K).

I called Honda and they gave me the specs (since they don't have there own oil).

SO, I bought some Amsoil Sever Gear 75W90.
It's what Amsoil recommends and it for GL-5/hypoid gear applications.

Before I make a $3000 mistake and put this stuff in, anyone have any experience with it or any comments??

Don't know anything about the Amsoil, you could do a search for other users. In general, Amsoil products are better than most if they're used in the correct application.

Personally, I think the "best" fluid for an S2000 differential is LE 607, especially in warm weather applications. http://marketplace.s2ki.com/s2ki/product.p...1&cat=24&page=1

A lot of drivers are using Mobil Synthetic 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lubricant.

Just changed my diff fluid this weekend with Mobil 1 75w90. I've been running this fluid on both my 2002 and 2005 models. Knock on wood...no problems yet.

 

couple more questions....what exactly is the correct weight for the diff?? I believe the manual said SAE 90, but my dealership and many people here are using 75W90 or 80W90.

also, I recall with a search on s2ki.com that some people had diff failure with LE-607...just my imagination?

also, can I use diff oil with friction modifiers??...the amsoil uses them in the "Severe Gear"

Been using Redline 75W90 gear oil for a while,and very satisfied.
Wanted to try the LE 607,but shipping from MARKETPLACE was too damn expensive!!!

I do not recall anyone ever reporting a lubrication-related differential failure when using LE 607 in an S2000. If anyone knows of a case, I'm sure that Lubrication Engineers would want to hear about it.

Friction modifiers are not necessary for our Torsen-type differential, but they will not hurt it either. They are needed by friction plate type designs like the Mazdaspeed unit in my Spec Miata and the limited slip diff in my wife's F250.

 

I have been using amsoil for years in my diff, no problems yet.
