Default diff sounds screwed...any ideas what it is?

So Ive had this really light noise coming from my car whenever I decellerate, up untill last night I thought it was no big deal untill it got about 10x worse, jacked up the car and it seems like its coming from under the diff, video is posted blow, trying to diagnose what is it and could use some help to some ideas as to what it may be...

Its pretty soft when accelerating, but as soon as you left off the gas it get very loud, especially in the higher gears like 3rd and 4th

thanks

It kind of sounds like my recent car "noise."

If it sounds like it's coming from the diff (as opposed to the hub), then it probably is.

Feel free to copy a "PWND DIFF CLUB" badge from my sig.....

I would NOT drive very much on it until you fix it. Maybe just one more time to get to the dealer.

There's a guy selling his used diff in the "for sale" forums for ~$400 or something like that.

New is $2600 or something crazy like that.

Otherwise ebay or contact a junkyard/parts finding service, there are plenty of used S2k diffs floating around due to all the noobs totalling their cars practicing their "mad drifting skillz."

Expect to pay between $200-400 for installation as well.

Oh, by the way:
Your other video explains why you're having this problem....

ehhh, doing donuts doesnt stress out the diff, and Ive only done that 1-2 times, have never dumped the clutch on the car. Thats what I get for buying a used sports car.

Think I might just get that used diff and install it myself, repair manuals doesnt require any special tools, looks easy enough....

before it started making the noise loud and all the time, can you explain a little more on how it sounded while decellerating?

Anyone care to comment on this one?

I'm curious if any mechanics know the answer.

I'm no mechanic, but I'd think that doing that actually stresses the differential less than a regular, good launch from zero. During a donut there's very little traction and thus not much stress? I don't know.

Can't say the same about the cooling the engine is expecting at those RPMs though.

Im an Audi Technician, and unless your dropping the clutch to start a donut, turning into an oversteer condition and doing donuts from there has no severe shock or stress on your drivetrain since there is not much resistance/load on the tires...

Ever notice when you go into a oversteer your revs go up? Because there is no load, only thing I can see going wrong with some donuts is someone overrevving the crap out of the engine without realizing it...

It sounded the same, just about 10x fainter, youd have to turn off the stereo and be in a pretty quiet area to be able to hear it, then after I got onto the freeway it just got 10x louder

Sweet! I thought I was going to have to give up my donuts with coffee!

(I don't do donuts, but I am known to occasionally make a legal U-turn with a back-end oversteer)

What about to the LSD? The noise the car is making sounds a lot like the LSD. I would think donuts and drifting would be very hard on the LSD...probably one of the reasons drifters tend to upgrade LSDs to a 2 way clutch type over our Torsen.
