Default Differential Fluid - Dealer Recommended thoughts?

I went in to the dealership today to ask for the type of diff fluid they used. I was told the fluid below is new and just came out for use in s2000's-- anyone familiar?

Pricey too at almost $20 a bottle.

Go with with either mobil 1 75w90 or LE 1605 or Amsoil 75w110
Which ever one is easier for you to get. Can't go wrong with any of those fluids.

Formulated for what Honda vehicles?

They all use dual pump or the other VTM4 or what ever it is.

That fluid is ok to use, but there are plenty of other proven products for less.

I run Amsoil Severe Gear 75-110 in my 03S & 02Z.It's one of the better & more popular choices.

Preferred customer & dealer price =$12.

My honest opinion is that fluid will be on the thin side of the original SAE90 spec. Everything I've seen indicates that our diffs wear less with thicker viscosity fluids, 75w90 is as low as you should go, and this fluid is even thinner. I'd go with an aftermarket fluid approaching 110 viscosity, the high cost of the oem fluid makes the decision even easier. If you want to stick with Honda fluids you can get their 80w90 at a much lower cost.

At least the dealer did not recommend the VTM-4. That is for the MDX/PILOT differential which has almost nothing in common with the S or standard diff. The MDX type diffs have 2 electronic clutches and built in oil pump for limited slip and fixed gear motoring. Do not put it into the S.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll go ahead and get some 75w-110.

Any places that should carry it locally?

The HGO-1 appears to be transfer case oil for the Crosstour, Ridgeline, and Pilot.
Linky for HGO-1
