Default Difficult to diagnose?

Hi Fellas,

My car is smoking intermittently and i'm having difficulty trying to pinpoint the cause so I need your input!!

Here is the current situation:

1) Blows blue smoke upon acceleration
2) Blows blue smoke upon deceleration (i see the smoke at the lights go past me)

The issue is that the above symptoms are not permanent - they only happen sometimes. I cannot replicate the conditions to trigger these symptoms so it has me guessing.

It does not blow blue smoke on start up - and i have yet to try and see if it blows smoke while reapplying throttle from deceleration at high RPM. At low RPM (from what i can gather) it does not blow smoke either.

I'm hoping its only worn valve stem seals - I haven't had time to take the car to a mechanics to conduct a compression/leak down test (will both be necessary to diagnose the issue)?

Thanks in advance
