When checking my oil, I noticed occasionally that the dipstick will catch on something on the way down to the oil pan. I tried a search but no avail. Does anyone know what the dipstick is catching on and if this is normal? Thanks.

it will happen if the stick isn't completely straight. you see that curve toward the ends of the dipstick? that is probably the part that is causing the problem. just try to make sure the dipstick is straight all the way and not bent.

if you still have the problem, its definately not normal.

Thanks Razor...it has only happened a few times. I'm assuming no harm is done when this happens?

Mine does that too when the stick is not perfectly in line with the passage way down to the pan. I say "passage way" because I don't think it is a "dedicated" tube. It's simply a path through the valve cover, head, cylinder block.
