When installing my new CM cannister oil filter (thanks, DavePK, for the suggestion) and C&R radiator with built-in oil cooler, I used the same routing as had been used for the oil filter relocation kit that came with my turbo kit.

But I'd still feel more comfortable if I knew, for certain, that I'm running the oil in the right direction (from the block, through the filter, then through the oil cooler, then back to the block).

I'm concered for two reasons: first, the oil should be filtered before flowing through the oil cooler (thanks, UL, for the advice). Second, the CM filter is uni-directional.

So, does anyone know whether the stock oil filter works by sucking oil from the outside of the cannister through the center hole or vice-versa?

I've tried finding an oil filter relocation kit installation manual but nobody's got one online.

Thanks,
CB

I have never seen a spinon oil filter where it did not function from the outside IN.

If the S2000 is the exception, someone please let this man know.

Pleated filter elements are stable with higher external pressure, but subject to buckling with higher internal pressure. Hence, they are set up so oil flows from outside to inside.

This is good news. Thank you both. That's how the oil filter kit was installed by Speedcraft, and it was under the belief that the oil filter relocation kit was initially installed correctly that we plumbed the new CM oil filter and C&R radiator. So, it that was done correctly then the new system is plumbed correctly, and I thank you both for the reassurance.

All the best,
CB

U are welcome, and you are smart to make sure of this, as the filter media would likely have fractured if reversed.

I tend to fuss about this sort of thing anyway, so it's really good to know that I've got it plumbed correctly and have nothing to worry about. I appreciate the help.

All the best,
