also, from what I now understand, if you hang the window partially open its bad for the motor. For clarkster, the cable snapped - but for me and badboyz I believe the plastic gear in the motor itself fractured as a result of having the window partially open while driving. From what I can gather from the pictures, at the down position the window rests on something. At the up position, the window is supported by the window rubber frame, preventing too much rattling. At mid-level, the window rattles around which possibly COULD be the reason for the plastic gears breaking.

When mine broke, it was halfway open and I was driving on a rough patch of road. not proof, but just my 2 cents..

If you check estore.honda.com you can get a pretty good discount from some dealers. My local dealer has the regulator for $213. Since this isn't a quick/easy repair I'm going with a new one rather than rolling the dice with a used one that might not last very long.

Thanks for the DIY

Thanks for the write up. I haven't had to do this yet, but I did rely on a similar write up to replace the window regulator on my wife's old 325i.

I'm shocked that Honda is asking $333 for the part. Even my local BMW dealer-which typically charges twice what other dealers ask for parts-wasn't charging this much. Even better, online suppliers can allow you to pick up new regulators for about $75 new. (sorry, I haven't scoped out the S2000 regulators yet as there has been no need)

Another successful window regulator replaced thanks to this thread. Picked up a used one off the market place for $75 shipped and installed myself. Thanks!
