Default do I really need to resurface the rotors ...

Search is down, so hopefully this hasn't been covered recently.

I'm curious about swapping brake pads for track days.

Carbotech suggests resurfacing the rotors prior to installing and bedding in their track pads, "in order to ensure a uniform mating surface between the new brake pad and existing rotor." They claim it will "help ensure maximum brake pad life and brake torque."

From reading several threads in UTH and over in Racing and Competition, I got the impression that folks often just switched their pads the night before at the hotel or even in the morning at the track. No resurfacing necessary.

So, do I really need to resurface the rotors? Seems like overkill.

Thanks.

There is no need to resurface them IMO. As long as they are straight, and there are no major grooves or pits.

It depends on how compatible the street and track pads are. Also it depends on how agressive you are at bedding in the track pads.

In theory, you should have separate rotors. Very few people do that. Don't resurface the rotors. If you really have problems, just buy a separate set of rotors and swap rotors as well as pads.
