Default Does the ap1 have shorter shift throws than the ap2 s2k

I was the proud original owner of a '02 s2k that I drove for 120k miles before trading in for an '08 ap2. First thing I noticed was the throw seemed much shorter in my ap1. Am I crazy or did honda make the throws longer between shifts? Any feedback?

did you buy your ap2 used? Maybe the prior owner installed a short throw kit.

The ap1 and ap2 will have a slightly different shifter feel but otherwise they are the same.

No. I'm the original owner for both cars. My ap1 shifter definitely felt much tighter than the ap2. Both cars were/are completely factory stock.

They are the same but a counter sunk shift knob can change the feel quite a bit.

I’m experiencing the same exact thing right now. I recently bought my ap2 stock and had a ap1 stock. I remembered the ap1 shifter being much shorter than my current ap2?... did You figure out if they’re the same or not?

Throw is identical across all years.

So many things can affect how shifts feel that are easy to confuse with throw.

Obviously, a countersunk knob will act like a short throw shifter. But even shape of knob can make things feel very different, especially if you tend to grip them differently.

Even something like seat height. Did either car have an aftermarket seat?

Also, ap2 heavy flywheel requires different shifting pace. You need to shift it differently, slower. An aftermarket lighter flywheel will have even more effect. It would be easy to perceive these differences as throw, when they aren't at all.

I agree with this. Also, is it possible that part of the difference you are feeling might be due to the miles on the ap1 when you traded in? Maybe your ap1 when new was the same as your ap2 when new but your memory is of the ap1 with all the miles on it?

Its interesting when you move from one s2k to another. You will notice differences. I just bought a second ap1 and there are some things about it that feel a little different. But, as I slowly get it set up in the same way as my first ap1, the differences are disappearing. A lot of these things relate to our set ups - type of oil, type of trans fluid, type of dif fluid, clutch adjustment, wheels, tires, alignment specs, etc.

They were both used and got my ap1 at 140k miles and my current ap2 122k miles. They’re both oem clutch and flywheel. I feel like there has to be a difference cus they do feel very different..

As stated above, the ap2 has a different flywheel. But the throw, as designed anyway, is the same.
