Does this part work or is it for looks? I am confused how this would help. In theory it channels the air to the duck but does it really? Is there any real proof? Thank you.
P.S. I looked before posting and this question has not be brought up in some time.
Its part of a multi step process in reducing IAT which is hugely beneficial in this car with maintaining full optimum timing advance and mitigating heat soak. In order to make this the most functional, you need to cut out or remove the stock radiator diverter plate to get more air volume to pass through to the intake box opening, and a snorkel either bought or custom to channel that air from the grill and up into that intake opening. This rad plate with intake provision completely isolates the incoming air, helping to channel and focus that cool air into the box.
It definitely looks good. I think it makes a difference but it will be a very marginal difference. But yes, measure the temperatures before and after to see if it helps.
I averaged about 40F drop in IAT overall with all said mods along with the coolant block off to manifold. If you have an 00-05 and extend the wiring harness from the stock IAT sensor located at the hot manifold and put it down to the intake like on DBW models, you will further realize more performance.
