Hi guys, so read up a tonne of threads about dome lights not working. I followed them and it was quite straight forward. Opened mine up to clean the contacts only to realise one of the metal pieces was missing!
Does anyone know where I can just get the tiny little metal contact bit? Don't really want to buy a complete new dome housing to replace this from a careless previous owner.
Here's a pic of the bit that is missing in mine. My lights work when I switch to ON position. Does nothing when opening the door or pressing the light buttons. Guessing cos the second contact is missing its not going to do those things.
That part is not sold separately unfortunately. And new dome lights are $90ish from Honda. I'd look in a nearby junkyard.
Or if you're feeling crafty, look for a strip of sheet metal (copper?) at Home Depot or Lowes, use some sort of punch (vice grip dimpler, dimple die, or dimple plyers) to indent the metal, use snips to cut it in the right shape, bend it. Tools can be $$ though unless you get lucky at Harbor Freight?
Or find a place to scan and 3D print in metal? Sorry, getting carried away
You'll also need to source the spring and bearing ball:
That sucks, yeah didn't think it would be sold separately... Found an entire housing but might try DIY'ing my own little but actually. I've got the other copper piece with the ball bearing. Just one of them and spring missing.
Time to get creative. A bb for the ball? Small rivets or Brass pan head screw heads for the raised contacts? A prong from an old extension cord, or a larger piece, from a junk yard clothes dryer, for the flat piece. You can probably use aluminum pieces in a pinch.
