Default Done

Well, I think we're done. After a good 5 days or so tuning with the AEM EMS system, we have run the car up to about 15-16 psi boost. The car pulls like I have never felt before. The first time we did a run up to 12 PSI the car broke loose in mid acceleration. We haven't dyno'ed it yet, because we are scared of braking drivetrain parts. I will probably end up putting it on a dyno in about 3-4 weeks or so. I expect that the car is making around 425 or so at 15-16psi, and perhaps will be making 460 or so at 19-20psi.

The car is tuned very conservatively, with around 11.5-11.9 AFR and around 19 degrees of timing on the top end. At this point the motor is pretty much maxed out with my setup. The only options to increase power is a larger turbo, more boost, or more advanced ignition timing with race fuel. I am not really interested in tuning with race fuel, as Mike tells me race fuel has a different density and therefore AFR is affected.

I dont want to push more than 19-20 psi boost on pump gas, but the block should hold up to 30psi or so with out any problems. The problem now is drivetrain. I don't want to be fixing my tranny all the time so I guess my only option is to have a street S2000 monster that has a high dyno number. As long as it's reliable I don't care anymore..

I hope to get in to a magazine someday soon so that I can help promote AEM. They have been so extremely helpful and the computer it's self is awesome. Once it's setup and running correctly it is great. I think I could tune another S2000 in a day or two now.

I will have more pics soon. If I had a video camera I would shoot a video.

Without having to dig through old posts, can you post a short laundry list of what you've done to the motor and turbo system?

sleeved block w/ o-rings, JE pistons, custom rods, head studs, speedcraft turbo, aem ems, alaniz cylinder head technologies head porting, oversized intake valves, aem fuel pressure regulator, rc engineering 720cc injectors, star stage 3 clutch with lightened pressure plate, spoon flywheel, custom 3" exhaust.

Engine built by Mike Simon of Simon Automotive. There are alot of tricks and special machining done to get everything to work correctly. I don't mean to sound cryptic but it's seriously true. There are many 'special' things about the S2000 motor which I am sure will be revealed over time.

Mike has rebuild his drag motor many times, and he rebuilt my motor in record time. The quality of the work is awesome, and there have been no mechanical issues AT ALL. I highly recommend him for future S2000 monster motors

I meant wheel hp. I don't mean to quote numbers, but I guess that's what people cling on to. I am just guessing at this point. I haven't done any dyno pulls yet. I am trying to be conservative with my guesses as well. The car pulls sooooo much harder than it did with 8 psi on pump gas, which made 334hp way back when.

The turbo should be capable of more than 20psi. At these numbers efficiency starts to come in to play more and more, and a larger slower spooling turbo would create alot more power. Changing the turbo would require several thousands of dollars because the manifold, downpipe, intake piping and turbo, oil feed, and oil return lines have to be changed out. I don't plan on doing this. I am happy with having a damned fast S2000 that creates gobs of torque down low, and has awesome top end!

Regarding the tranny, I basically mean I won't be launching the car, and I won't be boosting 20 psi around town all the time.

All of our high boost pulls were on the highway so we didn't really get to see what RPM it gets to 15-16 psi. Probably around 4000-4500 or so. I know it was at 8psi at least around 3700 RPM or so.

I did all the tuning on the street with a Motec PLM Wideband O2 sensor with Mike driving, and with me on the laptop frantically punching buttons and starting at the engine parameters.

The car runs on the highway doing pulls at around 70-72 degrees celcius, and in traffic at about 75-79 degrees.

Edit: We did some pulls in lower gears but the car gets to 8000 RPM+ so fast that you don't really get a chance to look at RPM. I will have to give it more thought when I get to play with it more.

Awesome!!!! I am so envious....if I could only win the lotto....j/k! With that much power down low...i doubt you will need to launch it to get great times. Any plans for some 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs???? At least give us a G-Tech teaser!

Sounds like you're at Mike's place, not at home, which explains why you are not on AIM?
