Sounds like something a complete tuneup will fix

Clean/new air filter
run some (good quality) fuel inject. cleaners/seafoam
change plugs
clean battery terminals
etc etc etc. probably something minor man.

What fuel have you put in?
just the normal unleaded sold over here noting else
You are in Ireland?
(as the flag suggests)
Is that Euro 95 or Euro 98 fuel?
You need the 98. (RON)
And check the trottle cable play.
checked this seems alot off play when turned off but mechanic said thats normal ????
No its not.
Adjust it (with cable lenght NOT throttle linkage idle set screw) until it has almost no play: it shouldn't affect the throttle linkage position!
Gain 20 HP at no cost

Today I've tried it: driving in 1st at 2000 rpm and flooring it and there is some "bucking" because the car jumps forwards, how much depends on how fast you floor it.
Gentle inputs = better

If the spark plugs turn out to be non OEM the previous owner probably made a mess of maintenance.

dumb question, but by "normal unleaded sold here" you do mean Premium grade right (91-93 octane)? not an 87-89 octane?

Have you check your plugs yet?

I hope you realize that you can destroy your motor by driving around with a loose spark plug.

And Yes, this sounds suspiciously like a loose spark plug to me.
