I plan on lowering the car slightly with a 1-inch drop and have often heard that the driver should be seated in the car during the alignment process. I'm 6-4, 235 and thought it might be a good idea (80% of the time I drive alone) but when I asked my chief mechanic (hey, it's Daytona week!), he said it wasn't necessary in my case. Anyone have any other op-eds?

 

I don't think it is something that you should worry about, unless you just need that last 2% for a competitive edge on the track.

 

If your mech will allow you to sit in the car why not? Even though it may have a miniscule effect why not get that extra advantage? You're a big guy at 235, so I think it would have more affect than me at 5'11" 170

BTW I did sit in the car during alignment.

 

I always sit in the car during alignment (and especially corner-weighting). A good alignment shop should either have you sit in the car, or ask your weight and place ballast in the driver's seat and footwell to simulate your weight.
