Default Drivers seatbelt ratchet?

So I was at a track day this summer and was going to lock my seat belt by pulling it out all the way and letting it ratchet back and tighten it that way. This is how I've always done it with my other cars, and most cars have this feature. I was surprised when it wouldn't ratchet like other seatbelts. I tried the passenger side and it did ratchet as I would expect. So I figured it was just a busted mechanism in the seatbelt assembly but my friend tried in his s2k and his driver side also didn't ratchet but his passenger side did like mine.
So my question is, do yours ratchet on the drivers side when pulled all the way out and both of ours just happened to be broken/worn out or is this just a weird thing the S lacks on the drivers side?

My passenger side does. My driver side does not. This is on a MY00 in the US.

The ratcheting seatbelts were designed for child seats only, so they wouldn't do it on the driver side AFAIK. I never checked my car but I assume this is how they operate.

Well it seems to be normal on the S2K, I'll have to look into the modifry lock or something like it. I just found it odd as every other car I've ever tried this on does it on every seat. Anyway thanks for the responses.

I just checked my ap1, ratcheting only occurs on the passenger side, no driver side ratcheting.

i think you can get the same ratcheting effect by simply pulling the seatbelt very quickly then feeding the extra in

None of the 5 cars I've owned have this feature on the driver seat. I wonder if things are different in Canada. Like JFUSION said, it's for child seats, something you won't ever put in a driver seat.

I know this is an old thread but can the passenger side ratchet be deactivated? It drives my passengers nuts when it locks
