Default Driveshaft spraying grease/oil at transmission connection…Help!

What’s up everyone,

Like the title says, around the transmission tunnel near where the drive shaft connects to the transmission, there is a light spray of either grease or oil. It looks like it’s coming from that connection and not the rear of the transmission as I do not see any dried oil or leaking oil coming from anywhere.

Car is an 02’ with 37k miles. Recent clutch job by LHT also.

This is the area where the spray is:

(Not my car just a stock photo. The line of grease looks exactly like in this photo though on the sides of the underbody)

Anyone have a DIY on how to diagnose and fix this issue??

Thanks again!

It could have been a glob of grease that ended up on the driveshaft after re-install and then slung onto the underbody. Clean it up well and see if it returns.I would think that would have left more of just a big splatter of grease, but worth testing to see.

good point, honestly didn’t even think about that! I did clean it off so I’ll check after the next drive. Is this even a place that can leak grease or oil in case it’s not what you have suggested?

There appears to be grease around part of the driveshaft flange. Clean that well before testing too.

The grease can start coming out of the prop shaft CV joint there. Rear trans seal can also start leaking and cause a similar symptom.

You can replace the boot with an aero boot. I also found a CV joint of the same dimensions as ours so that can also be replaced now.

Sorry, i do not have a solution/comment to your problem but wondered why did you replace the clutch when the mileage is so low?
