Default Driving with a faulty Cat..

So I go to the dealer, and they were going to replace the rear O2, but I told them to inspect the cat BEFORE ordering just the O2, and they said the cat was probably OK. So I go in today to get the O2 replaced, and they said that after taking the old O2 out, that the front part of the cat's honeycomb section has dislodged and slid back. Until I fix the cat, i'll just live with the CEL, but i'm afraid of driving to the megameet with a funky, lose, broken cat. If its just loose and the exhaust flow is not obstructed, then I don't care and I'll go to the meet the way it is. But what if its restricting airflow. That would be bad. Do you think this is a possibility?

Does anyone in the local bay area have a used cat that they can sell me? I'd want to swap out the cat and put the same bad o2 back in for the trip. I'd drop by honda next week and they'll install the new O2 they have for me.

I know an option is to take the cat out, punch the contents out and put it back in. I'd like to only do that as a very very last resort because I don't want to get caught driving catless.

Thx

I'd venture to say that the dislodged catalyst is what took out the 02 heater. You been driving with it in this condition for a while. If the convertor was restricted you would defintely notice serious performance problems. Although overheating the convertor is possible, If it hsn't done it yet I bet it won't later.

Doesn't the CAT have an extended warranty as emissions equipment?

Same issue here. It's the price we pay for the SC. I've been driving around with the CEL for a few months.

You can remove the cat, take off the heater shield, slide the converter material back where it's supposed to be and then wack the shit out of the outside with a sledgehammer. This will push the metal into the cat and hold it in place. This will work for about 2 weeks before it starts rattling again. I need a used cat, too. Anyone?

I'd totally gut mine, but the increased flow could push my nice AF ratios too high. Don't worry about the cops...if you take 1/2 the material out fore of the o2 sensor they'll never know. If you take it all out they may catch on to your stinky exhaust, but when they inspect it'll look stock.

The Convertor is covered 8yrs/80K.

The SC May complicate the warranty issue though. Your pretty much playing he said she said on what damaged the Cat.
